There’s much transition going on in the world just now. We are living on the edge of the unknown. So much uncertainty and fear. There’s a lot that we just don’t know and we’re not sure how it will all unfold.

Many of us feel vulnerable and uncomfortable.

During times like this our minds can work overtime inventing stories of how things won’t work out or predicting how we’re going to fail. Our thoughts fill our heads with insecurity and doubt.

Everyone seems on edge. These edges appear sharper. Opinions (about everything!) seem to be polarized, as it feels like everything is met with opposition and resistance.

It’s easy to feel lost, frightened, and confused. In times like these we can feel very separate and alone – like it’s you against the world!

In my experience, we take the biggest leaps forward in our personal and spiritual growth during difficult times like these.

When we are on the edge of the unknown, things are shifting at some fundamental level and even though we might be suffering, and do not know what to do, this is when many of us have our breakthrough…

The unknown is giving us an opportunity to grow if we are willing to trust it…

How we can stay stuck…

Sometimes the fear of NOT KNOWING is very strong…it feels so frightening.

It’s not actually the fear of not knowing that we are frightened of, it’s our imagination of that fear and the stories we are telling ourselves.

What we imagine to be true is fueled by the stories we keep playing in our heads. We can get consumed with worry and anxiety about what might happen in the future. We get locked into believing these thoughts and they impact our reality…

FEAR is not the truth…

Fear just keeps you locked up in your patterned way of being. When you are stuck in your old patterns of thinking – you literally can’t think your way out of it!

Some people will stay stuck in their patterns all their lives – holding on tight to their stories, remaining constricted in conditional resistance. They become gripped by their suffering (fear, self-doubt, insecurity etc) and remain unwilling to look at life from a different perspective. Why? Because at least this feels familiar, even if the way they’ve been going about life no-longer works. Better the devil you know!

Resistance can be a dream-killer, if you allow it to take hold and unleash its power. Insecurity and doubt enter through the cracks in our self-belief. We begin to question our intuition, as everything seems to go on red alert that this is the signal for the beginning of the end!

Developing a willingness to trust the unknown…

I have navigated many big transitions in my life… Some chosen, some imposed upon me. They have ALL called me to go look inwards and explore the layers of who I was, what I was tolerating and how I was staying stuck in my unconscious patterns, to reveal the next version of myself.

The unknown isn’t as scary as you might think. We’ve been navigating it ALL our lives so far. Our time here on Earth is constantly changing shape. You can loosen the grip of fear and anxiety by learning to be willing to trust the unknown…

You have to be willing to:

  • push past your conditioning to see your pattern for what it is – not the truth – just an unconscious pattern that’s no longer working in your life.
  • embrace the discomfort of not knowing if you want transformation to occur. The unknown is just that – unknown! We just don’t know in this moment.
  • let go even though you don’t know what the outcome will be. When you surrender to what is and let go, you are letting go of the suffering and constriction. You stop resisting. You stop trying to control something you can’t control. You relax!
  • listen to the silence that comes with letting go. Be with this space and stillness. In this space is where you’ll get your answer to not knowing… It might not come straight away, just be open to listen and trust the space.
  • be open to something new – it’s not something that you can figure out or plan. Give yourself the grace to sit on the edge of the unknown and just be present here. See what insights naturally come to you. Listen to your intuition – it is such a powerful source from within. Have faith and believe in yourself.

Uncertainty is a natural part of being alive. Nothing is ever certain. We are always venturing into the unknown. It’s okay not to know… I know it feels counterintuitive, but relax into it… loosen the grip.

Our lives are constantly changing shape.

The unknown is just that – unknown!
